CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting®

CoolSculpting® is a fast, reliable, and proven way to reduce fat all over the body without surgery!

What is Coolsculpting?

This FDA-approved, fat-freezing procedure is a new non-invasive treatment that removes stubborn fat cells that resist normal efforts of diet and exercise. It is now the world’s number one non-invasive treatment, because it requires no downtime and can be used in almost any area of the body. Some of the more common areas of treatment are:

Chin

Upper arms

Flanks

Abdomen

Flanks

Bra rolls

Inner and Outer thighs

Distal Thigh

Banana Roll

By using a controlled cooling process, unwanted bulges containing fat cells die off. The result is a diminished amount of fat cells present in the targeted area. After the procedure, within the following weeks and months, the fat cells remaining condense. This reduces the fat layer under the tissue in the targeted area. This results in a body transformation you will love to show off!

How does Coolsculpting® Work?

This innovative and non-invasive procedure was created by Harvard scientists who observed that children who ate popsicles got dimples in their cheeks. Realizing that the popsicles were in fact freezing and eliminating the fat cells present through a process termed Cryolipolysis®, the Harvard scientists developed a way to achieve this on other parts of the body. Coolsculpting® allows for a safe and effective way to shape and transform your body without damaging the skin or surrounding tissues.

It is important to note that this process is about losing fat cells, not losing weight. While diet and exercise can help you lose weight, it only makes the fat cells present in your body smaller. Therefore, many patients undergo this procedure, because it helps rid their body of the stubborn fat cells that diet and exercise cannot eliminate. However, with Coolsculpting®, the number of fat cells present in the treated areas are reduced.

What to expect when you come in for a Coolsculpting® procedure?

The First Step For your first visit with us, you’ll meet with our Coolsculpting® clinician for a complimentary consultation. During this consultation, the clinician will discuss the goals you wish to achieve for reshaping your body and what specific areas you wish to focus on. Since everyone’s body is different, we will tailor your treatment plan specifically to you.

Your Treatment Day For your treatment, a gel pad and applicator will be applied to the targeted area. Once the applicator is applied, vacuum applicators draw the targeted area into the applicator cup and a controlled cooling is delivered to the targeted tissue. The duration of the procedure depends on how many areas are treated, but typically a single treatment can take as little as 35 minutes. Since this procedure is minimal and requires no anesthesia, feel free to read, check emails or even take a nap!

This treatment does involve a cooling process, so it can be a little chilly. This sensation may feel intense initially, but will subside within 5 to 10 minutes as the area numbs. Also, the process involves a vacuum applicator to draw the targeted tissue into the applicator cup, so you may experience some pulling, tugging, or mild pinching. After the treatment, you may feel some tingling as the area is massaged for 2 or 3 minutes.

What Are the Risks?

CoolSculpting® is a very safe procedure. There have been no reported cases of skin injury to date. A common side effect is temporary numbness. Since this is quite common, a clinical study was conducted and showed that the nerves were not injured. Numbness goes away after a reasonable period of time. Since this procedure releases fat into the body, some people have questioned whether this fat load in the blood and lymphatic system could cause harm. Again, extensive clinical research has shown that this is no concern. Your body is perfectly capable of handling the slow, steady release of fat, just as it does when we eat a meal. Occasionally, some patients experience short-term side effects, but this typically resolves in a few days or weeks.

Typical side effects include: Temporary redness, Swelling, Blanching, Bruising, Firmness, Tingling, Stinging, Tenderness, Cramping, Aching, Itching andSkin sensitivity.

    Am I a good candidate?

The better question might be who is not a good candidate! If you are obese, gaining weight, not in control of your weight, or pregnant, this is not appropriate for you at this time. A lifestyle change is needed. The best candidates are within 25 or so pounds of their ideal body weight and have isolated bulges of fat. The lower belly and flanks are perfect examples. The nature of the device does not allow treatment of large areas without considerable time and expense. You should not have the CoolSculpting procedure if you suffer from cryoglobulinemia, cold agglutinin disease, or paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria. Request a one-on-one consultation with us to determine if the CoolSculpting procedure is right for you.

How long is each session? How many sessions will I need?

We will help you create an individualized treatment plan tailored to your specific goals. The length of your CoolSculpting session will vary depending on the number of areas being treated during one visit. We may schedule additional sessions in order to meet your goals.

Where does the fat go? Are the results permanent?

Once the treated fat cells are crystallized (frozen), your body processes the fat and eliminates these dead cells. Once the treated fat cells are gone, they’re gone for good.

Can I return to normal activities after my treatment?

Yes, you can. The CoolSculpting procedure is completely non-surgical, so typically you can return to normal activities immediately. Often times, patients return to work after their CoolSculpting session is over.

    What are the results?

Each CoolSculpting® treatment is intended to result in a noticeable reduction of fat in the treated area. After being frozen, the fat cells enter what is known as an apoptotic death sequence, which unfolds over weeks or months. The method is a gentle one, with inflammatory cells breaking the fat cells down, then sending the lipids to be processed by the body’s efficient lymphatic system. As the lipids leave, the thick fat layer thins accordingly. A medical study has shown that since this is a gradual process, with fat being slowly broken down, the loose lipids don’t negatively impact the blood or harm the liver.

Most patients who undergo Coolsculpting® achieve a 20% fat reduction in targeted areas.  Every patient who receives this procedure experiences different results, but patients generally begin to see results as soon as 3 weeks, with the most dramatic results apparent within 3 months of the procedure. Your body will still flush out fat cells and continues doing so for up to four to six months after treatment. After the initial treatment is complete, you can attain further reductions with additional appointments, resulting in even more fat loss. Some patients, though, find that one treatment fully addresses their goals. Two sequential treatments at three-to six-month intervals are recommended.

What happens if I gain weight down the road?

Many people, after seeing the results from their CoolSculpting procedure, take even better care of themselves. However, if you do gain weight, you may gain it evenly all over your body, not just in the treated areas.

    Fat Reduction vs. Weight Loss

It may be confusing to hear that reducing fat is not the same as losing weight. It’s all about what happens to fat cells. After dieting and weight loss, fat cells get smaller, but the number of fat cells stays the same. When weight is gained, fat cells get bigger. The CoolSculpting® fat-freezing procedure actually reduces the number of fat cells in treated areas by about 20 to 25 percent. These fat cells are naturally processed and removed by the body, so they won’t migrate to another area. And, unlike what happens with other procedures, there’s no change to fat cells in untreated areas

    Coolsculpting® vs. Liposuction

While Liposuction has many benefits and advantages, there are numerous reasons why Coolsculpting® might be the best choice for you. These include:

    • It is natural, non-invasive approach to your transformation. This means there is no under-the-knife procedure, administered anesthesia, injections, incisions, or traumatic suction.
    • Because it is a non-invasive procedure, there is no downtime. You can resume your normal daily routine without interruption from an aggressive procedure!
    • There are fewer risks with this procedure. However, the procedure is not entirely risk-free.
    • The treatment is at a lower price than liposuction depending on what you have done.
    • For those who cannot or do not want to have surgery, this is the treatment option for you!
